Registration

Registration is optional support for BorgMate. Every copy is fully licensed under the GPL-3.0, registered or not.

What registration is

BorgMate is free software under the GNU General Public License v3.0. Nothing is locked, trialed, or gated. A registration key pays for the work and changes three things:

  • The About window shows Registered to your name and edition.
  • The occasional reminder after a successful backup stops.
  • Updates are covered for one year from the day the key was issued.

Keys are verified on your computer. The app never contacts the website about your registration, and there is no account, activation, or hardware binding. Get a key on the registration page.

Enter a key

  1. Open Support BorgMate in the sidebar, or About → Enter registration key.
  2. Paste the key from your email. It is one line starting with BM1..
  3. Click Register. About now shows your name; the sidebar item disappears.

An invalid or mistyped key is reported in the dialog and nothing is stored.

Use the key on another computer

The key is not tied to a machine. Keep the email with the key and enter it on every computer where you run BorgMate. Reinstalling BorgMate or moving to a new machine needs the same key again, nothing else.

When the update year ends

Nothing stops working. The registration stays valid, the app keeps running, and newer releases still install. The update window only notes that the release is newer than the period your registration covers. A new key extends the period.
